Delhi - Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC)

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor shall open a door for endless economic opportunities in India. Spanning 1,483 kilometers across six important states in the nation, the DMIC shall influence 14% of the country's population and shall cover 17% of the total area of the Indian subcontinent. Most of it shall pass through Eastern Gujarat, influencing the economy of the state by large. The other five states that shall pave way for construction of the massive infrastructure (DMIC)include Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Southern Haryana, Eastern Rajasthan, and Western Maharashtra.

DMIC has been planned to create an environment of sustainable development in India by developing a strong economic base through acceleration oftrading and manufacturing activities in the country. The corridor targets to act as a catalyst for activating the local commerce and attracting enormous foreign investments. It is also being envisioned as a global trading and manufacturing hub, thus perceived to be of much economic importance going forward.

While the DMIC intends to strongly impact the entire nation, DMIC Dholera shall seemingly be the most influential part of the corridor. DMIC Dholera shall cover 62% of total area of Gujarat and shall empower the major cities in the state such as Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. Of the total 26 districts in Gujarat, 18 shall fall under the influential area of DMIC and one third of the entire investments planned for DMIC shall be made in Gujarat. 82 districts shall be covered in totality by the DMIC PAN India. 8 lakh employment opportunities are expected to be generated in the state alone by the corridor.

DMIC shall be reinforced by the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) which shall be instrumental in making DMIC an economic zone by extending logisticssupport and facilities.The Freight corridor is being developed along the railway line and shall thus help in movement of finished goods and raw materials to and fro from DMIC with ease.

The 24 special investment nodes planned for DMIC shall be built along DFC. Such nodes shall shoulder the responsibility of smooth functioning of DMIC in various aspects which include:-

  • Ensuring that all business activities in the region are carried out seamlessly
  • Resolving disputes related to land acquisition
  • Provide for resources that shall be required to conduct the expected economic activities
  • Creation of robust transit mechanism for smooth flow of people and goods through road, rail and water route.
